Nebulizers

What is a Nebulizer?

A nebulizer is a device that uses a jet of air or other gas to create a fine mist of medicine for inhalation. The mist is created by forcing the medicine through tiny holes in a chamber called a “reservoir.” A person breathes this mist directly into their lungs, where it mixes with air and becomes part of the body's natural breathing process.

There are two types of nebulizers: hand-held and auto-inhalers. Hand-held devices require manual operation and are typically used when administering medications to children. Auto-inhalers are battery operated and are usually used to treat adults.

When selecting a nebulizer, consider its features. For example, some models include timers, alarms, and reminders. Some models allow users to adjust the dosage amount. Others offer additional functions, such as humidifiers, heaters, and air purifiers.
